College of Health Sciences
The College of Health Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University offers more than 20 options and majors in fully accredited programs. Master of Public Health
The master’s degree in public health is designed to meet the needs of students who are currently working in or who wish to work in a public health profession. The curriculum consists of 45 to 46 semester hours, which includes 22 semester hours in a concentration area. Students can choose from several degree options, including public health nutrition, industrial hygiene, community health education (CHE), and environmental health science (EHS). Full-time students pursuing the MPH from EKU can expect to complete the program in two-and-a-half to three years. Both part-time and full-time students must complete all program requirements within seven years.

College of Public Health

Master of Public Health
The University of Kentucky offers a master’s degree in public health that is designed to meet the needs of students with a bachelor’s degree who wish to pursue a career in public health. The MPH program offers five concentrations for students, including biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, health behavior, and population health policy and management. The program requires students to complete a minimum of 42 credit hours, 15 of which must come from required core courses as well as three semester hours of research and 18 semester hours of electives in the student’s concentration area. Students must also complete nine hours in a field practicum and public health capstone project. Topics of study include the management of public health organization, epidemiology, public health disease and prevention, occupational and environmental health, and biostatistics.

University of Louisville
School of Public Health and Information Sciences
The School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) embraces the traditional roles and tasks of public health specialists while also recognizing that there is more involved when it comes to protecting the public’s health today. The School aims to work for close integration of public health, healthcare, and individual health, and the School pursues health information sciences as a critical component of public health. Students not only learn the traditional principles and theories of public health, but they also develop the skills and knowledge necessary to integrate new, more modern techniques.
Master of Public Health
Students pursuing the master’s degree in public health from the University of Louisville become a part of a foundation that includes community involvement as well as academic and applied research that seeks to provide practical solutions that address a broad range of challenges in protecting the public’s health. Students may choose from a number of concentrations, including global public health, health promotion and behavior, health policy, population health management, epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, and biostatistics. The degree consists of 44 total credit hours of courses, including 14 credit hours at the core level, 4 credit hours in electives, 2 credit hours of an integrating experience, 3 credit hours of a practicum experience, and 21 credit hours in a concentration.

Western Kentucky University
The Graduate School
The Graduate School at Western Kentucky University serves as a resource for current and prospective graduate students. It also acts as a liaison between faculty members and students in all graduate programs. Students can choose from more than 100 graduate degrees, including doctoral degrees, master’s degrees, specialist degrees, and graduate certificates. The Graduate School offers degrees in a variety of formats, including fully online, on-campus, or a combination of both. Master of Public Health
The Master of Public Health degree from Western Kentucky University is the first and only accredited, fully online MPH program in the state. The 42 credit-hour degree prepares students for a wide range of health-related professions. Beyond the required courses, students work directly with their advisors to choose electives and tailor the degree program to meet their academic and professional goals as they relate to public health. Students must complete 30 credit hours of required courses in addition to electives and practice experiences. The degree covers topics such as health program evaluation, health behavior, principles of environmental health, public health administration, epidemiology, and applied methods in public health practice.
