The University of Southern Mississippi, also known as Southern Miss, is a public university that offers one of the only Master’s in Public Health degree programs in Mississippi designed for working executives and other busy professionals. All students must submit a full application by the middle of July to start the program in the fall semester. Students must submit an official transcript that shows an average GPA of 3.0, an essay of no more than 500 words and a resume. This resume should highlight any of the practical experience that you have in the health care field.

Public Health Online Degree (Executive MPH Format)

Though this is an online program, it features some of the same required courses that you’ll see in other programs. You must take and pass classes on epidemiology, biostatistics, social and behavioral aspects of health, environmental health and case studies in health services administration. This program has an emphasis in health policy and administration, which prepares you for working in some leadership positions. You will need to take a course that serves as an introduction to health systems before taking advanced classes such as health care financial management, health care marketing, health law and ethics, health economics and health care strategic planning to fulfill all the other requirements needed for graduation.
