Medicine (MD/MPH) Dual Degree

NYU offers more dual degree programs for MPH students than any other college in New York. One of those dual degree programs is more future doctors and allows them to earn a medical degree and a public health degree. Students typically spend three years working on the MD degree before spending the fourth year on public health. They will then spend a final year finishing the requirements for both programs. NYU allows these students to do the public health capstone through a seminar class that they take at night. Students can only apply to this program after receiving acceptance to the School of Medicine.

Dentistry (DDS/MPH) Dual Degree

The NYU School of Dentistry worked with the College of Global Public Health to design a dual degree program that combines a dentistry degree with a public health degree. Students focus on their DDS studies during the first two years of the program and then take 24 credits of public health classes in the third year. Both the fourth and fifth years of the program combine courses from both programs. Students will take public health courses that include global environmental health, foundations of global health, readings in the history and philosophy of public health, health care policy and biostatistics for public health.

Dual Degree in Public Administration (MPA/MPH)

Students can also earn a dual degree in public administration and public health through a joint program offered by the College of Global Public Health and the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. This is a three-year program that features 69 credits of classes. Students will need to pick a public administration concentration in either health policy and management or public and non-profit management. Students typically take 12 to 15 credits of classes each semester and spend a final semester working on a capstone. The university asks students to take a final elective class in this semester too.
