North Dakota State University
Graduate Programs
North Dakota State University, also known by the abbreviation of NDSU, is a public university in Fargo. It offers a Master of Public Health program that students can start in the fall semester. The university must receive a completed application packet from each prospective student by March 1. In addition to the application, students must also submit an official GRE score, but the university will also accept an MCAT or PCAT score instead. The application process also includes an interview. Each prospective student will need to meet with the admissions committee and respond to the questions asked by that committee.
Master of Public Health
Like other Master’s in Public Health degree programs in North Dakota, the NDSU program allows students to transfer credits earned at another program. They can transfer up to nine credits into this MPH program. Students typically take 24 credits of required public health classes and 18 credits from within a specialization. They can pick a specialization in American Indian public health, health promotion, management of infectious diseases or public health clinical systems. The required courses that all MPH students take include Essentials in Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Biostatistics and Leading and Managing Public Health Systems. They will also take a practicum course and write a final paper.

University of North Dakota

The University of North Dakota offers more options for students with an interest in Master’s in Public Health degree programs in North Dakota than any other school does. Many incoming students enroll in its basic MPH program, which is open to any student who has an undergrad degree from an accredited college or university. Those with a nursing license and some nursing experience may prefer its public health nurse program. UND also offers a joint program that allows students to study both kinesiology and public health. Each program provides students with the strong foundation that they need to work in any public health field.
Master of Public Health
One of the only public health degree programs in the country with a student exchange option is the MPH program that UND offers. Students can spend time studying in Norway at the University of Bergen and gain credit that counts towards their degrees. This program also offers a lower tuition rate as part of the Western Exchange program that allows students from other states to qualify for in-state tuition. Students take 18 credits of required public health courses and 18 credits of classes in the public health analytics specialization or the health management and policy specialization. They will also do a practicum and scholarly project.
MS Kinesiology and Public Health Education
UND also offers a unique combined program that allows students to earn a Master of Science as they study both public health and kinesiology. It is especially popular among those who want to work in clinical settings and directly with patients. Students will take classes that are worth between two and four credits. They can earn up to six credits for internship work and up to two credits for an independent study project. UND also awards students up to nine credits for their thesis work. Students can take courses such as Sport Psychology, Analysis of Teaching and Coaching and Exercise Psychology.
MS Advanced Public Health Nurse
Students who have a valid RN license can enroll in the UND Advanced Public Health Nurse program, which awards graduates a Master of Science degree. To meet the needs of professional nurses who work full-time in medical facilities, this program is available entirely online. Students will take 12 classes and then do a thesis or an independent study project. The program features two practicums also. All required courses in this program are worth at least two credits each. Those classes include Global Public Health Issues, Ethical, Legal and Health Policy Issues, Evidence for Practice, Essentials of Epidemiology and Advanced Public Health Nursing.
